{January 31, 2010}   Where do the Wizards go from here?

What is the Wizards next play in dealing with the Gilbert Arenas gun scandal?

Arenas was suspended Wednesday for the rest of the season, but he still has four years left in his six-year contract. So will the Wizards try to void the contract based on the morals clause or will they allow Arenas to come back next season?

“It’s going to be extremely difficult,” said one Eastern Conference team president. “In all player contracts, you have these clauses that can void it. But there are also a lot of protections in the contracts for the players. The contracts almost protect the employee better than the team.”

Friday Arenas pled guilty to felony gun charges and will be sentenced on March 26.

The charges stem from a locker room incident between Arenas and his teammate Javaris Crittenton. The two men got in an argument over a card game on the team plane two days before. Allegedly, Crittenton said he should shoot Arenas in his left knee, which had been surgically repaired, sources stated. Then Arenas placed four unloaded guns in a chair next to Crittenton’s locker with a note that said “pick one”. Crittenton also brought his gun in the locker room and was suspended, as well.
We will just have to wait until Arenas’ sentencing to see what the Wizards next move will be.
What do you think: Should the Wizards void Gilbert Arenas’ contract?
